We are the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis
Established in 1952, the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis has maintained a tradition of excellence and a commitment to new music including commissioning new pieces. We will be continuing, with the leadership of a new music director, to move forward with these goals as well as continuing to explore the music masters of the past.
Over its 72 year history, the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis has been led by 9 different conductors, the last, Cary John Franklin, serving for 30 years. In May of 2024, Cary John Franklin completed his tenure as the music director. In June, the orchestra made the choice to appoint Dr. Matthew George as the 10th music director.
